“Meals for Moms” Mother's Day Campaign Helps Senior Moms

The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is launching its second annual Meals for Moms campaign to raise awareness of homebound senior moms facing the threat of hunger this Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 8th). Individuals can visit www.MealsForMoms.org to send a message of hope to a lonely and homebound senior mom or send an e-card to a special woman in their life. With the help of the official sponsor, Gallo® Family Vineyards, the campaign’s goal this year is to send 50,000 messages. All funds raised will go into the Meals for Moms Fund to help Meals On Wheels programs feed homebound senior moms around Mother’s Day next year.

“Most of us are very lucky to know the love of a mother. They are the ones who raised us and often prepared our meals. Now, too many of them are alone and hungry,” said MOWAA President and CEO, Enid Borden. “They deserve better, and that is why this campaign is so very important. Our moms need us.”
MOWAA-sponsored research reveals that a staggering six million seniors are facing the threat of hunger in America, and the numbers are growing. The majority of those seniors are women. Gallo Family Vineyards is a family-owned winery and understands the importance of family, sharing the firm belief that the world is a better place when we don't just take care of our own families, but take care of each other.

“We are proud to join MOWAA in its mission to feed more senior women,” said Stephanie Gallo, Vice President of Marketing at E&J Gallo Winery. “It’s important to find ways to give back. Working with Meals On Wheels is just one of the ways we’re trying to make our community better.”

At www.MealsforMoms.org, visitors can choose from a variety of flowers – including roses, tulips, and lilies – for the virtual bouquet they select to send with a message. Here are just a few examples of the thousands of messages sent to homebound moms across the country last year:

“Happy Mother's Day. Although we cannot meet, I am here caring for you in spirit.”
“I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day! We all know its not easy raising a child and all mothers should get some credit for doing such an important job! So, happy Mother’s Day!”
“Mothers are special! I wouldn't be today the person I am if it wasn't for my great Mother (and Grandma too)! Happy Mother's Day. Hugs & kisses to all.”

POCOYO is joining a great cause and would love your support!

Pocoyo has some huge news to share and would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word for a good global cause!

The beloved children’s character, POCOYO, has been named the first official Global Kids’ Ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund’s 2011 Earth Hour initiative on March 26, 2011.

As the newly appointed Global Kids’ Ambassador for Earth Hour, Pocoyo is primed for his latest adventure—to raise environmental awareness among today’s children. Empowering kids, their parents and caregivers to “turn off the lights” during Earth Hour (March 26, 2011 at 8:30 pm)—and to incorporate easy, environmentally sustainable actions “beyond the hour”—Pocoyo encourages kids to play a vital role in saving our planet!  As today’s children are tomorrow’s guardians of our planet, their involvement and sense of responsibility is vital.

Through innovative animation content and online activities, Pocoyo will encourage children around the globe to get involved in the.  Children will be asked to turn off lights in their homes for one hour beginning at 8:30 pm (in their respective time zones) in what has become a worldwide collective display of peoples’ commitment to protect the planet.

In 2010, the Earth Hour message reached 1.3 billion and the event saw hundreds of millions of people switch off in more than 4,616 cities and towns in 128 countries.

Organizers are looking to extend the Earth Hour “Beyond the Hour,” inspiring us all to include small changes in daily habits–taking the bus instead of a car or even riding a bike to work, for example--which will collectively benefit the planet and create a better future.  The campaign will also leverage the power of social media as a means of engaging and inspiring eco-friendly changes in people’s lifestyles around the globe.

We would love for you to enjoy and share for FREE new Earth Hour activities, which can be found at www.pocoyo.com/earth_hour_2011.html <http://www.pocoyo.com/earth_hour_2011.html> .

Swap.com Launches Book Donation Program for K-12 Education

As educators face a scarcity of supplies for their classrooms and school libraries as a result of dramatic budget cuts in recent years, Swap4Schools aims to assist them in procuring much needed supplies for free. The program also empowers dads who are eager to help with easy online access to a list of items their local school system needs. Within the program’s first week of operation, educators have signed up across 40 states and received over 1,000 donations!

To enlist in the program, school administrators, teachers, and librarians at U.S. public schools, grades K-12, can create a free account and build a list of books and other media items needed for their classroom. Then, any of Swap.com’s 1 million members who own those items will have the opportunity to donate them to a school in need. Swap.com will waive transaction fees for members who choose to make a donation, so the only cost is shipping!

P&G Supports Youth Health and Wellness and NFL PLAY 60

As part of its Official NFL sponsorship, Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) has partnered with NFL PLAY 60, the league’s campaign to fight childhood obesity, in an effort to improve the health and wellness of kids across the nation.  Through its season-long support, P&G has donated $300,000, which has helped create health centers, rehabbed playgrounds, purchased sports equipment and helped thousands of children lead happier, healthier lives.  The grand finale came during this past week when P&G presented the NFL PLAY 60 Community Blitz in Hawaii, which included the construction of a brand new playground at the YMCA of Honolulu-Leeward Branch.  P&G continued its support through the 2011 Pro Bowl game with its Touchdowns for Kids cause effort, which provided a $5,000 donation for each touchdown scored in the game and raised more than $100,000 to support youth health and wellness programming at local United Way chapters across the country.

“P&G is proud to have provided season-long support of NFL PLAY 60 to help thousands of kids lead happier, healthier lives,” said Anne Westbrook, Corporate Communications Leader, U.S. Sports Marketing at P&G.  “P&G’s mission is to touch and improve the lives of our consumers, which is why fighting childhood obesity, which affects one third of our nation’s children, is so important to us.”

The culmination of P&G’s season-long support came with the lead sponsorship of the NFL PLAY 60 Community Blitz in Hawaii during 2011 Pro Bowl week, the largest Pro Bowl service project.  Pro Bowl players, including Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Cowboys tight-end Jason Witten, and community volunteers spent Thursday working to improve the Hawaiian Island of Oahu as part of the Blitz.  Led by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to saving play for American’s children, the team built a playground at the YMCA of Honolulu-Leeward Branch, which is now complete with a recreational play space, seating area, and an outdoor classroom for local children. At another Blitz site, the Marriott Ihilani Hotel, Special Olympians spent time with players and took part in a special NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition.  Three other Blitz events took place with youth football, cheerleading and fitness clinics at Hickam Air Force Base/Pearl Harbor, Schofield Army Base and Kaneohe Bay Marine Base.

The support continued into the 2011 Pro Bowl game with P&G’s Touchdowns for Kids cause effort where the company awarded a $5,000 donation per touchdown to the local United Way of each scoring player’s NFL city to support youth health and wellness programming.  Players scored 13 touchdowns to help P&G donate $65,000 to United Way chapters in Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Phoenix, St. Louis and Washington D.C.  Donations were also awarded to the remaining 22 NFL markets, bringing the total in-game donation to an estimated $100,000.

P&G began its support of NFL PLAY 60 at the beginning of the season with its Take it to the House campaign, which featured six of P&G’s leading brands, including Febreze, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Old Spice, Prilosec OTC and Vicks.  At the heart of the program was a photo contest on www.facebook.com/TakeItToTheHouse, where consumers were encouraged to post photos of how they celebrate NFL game day at home with their football family.  Each of the eight finalists received a $10,000 donation to support a local youth health and wellness organization, P&G products and an at-home visit from a local NFL legend.  The donations have supported a local park in Pittsburgh, St. Jude’s Hospital in Peoria, IL, a high school health and wellness center in Connecticut and many more.

The grand prize winner of the Take it to the House photo contest, Richard Geremia Jr. of Northford, CT, and his family were rewarded with a trip to Hawaii to attend the 2011 Pro Bowl and help continue P&G’s support of youth health and wellness by participating in the NFL PLAY 60 Community Blitz.

Soft Launches NEW Limited Edition
Brooklyn Artists Tee Series
Proceeds Will Be Donated To FREE ARTS NYC

What Inspires YOU?

NEWS

Soft Clothing is proudly based in Brooklyn NY and is inspired by the street art and visual artists that surround their Bushwick design studio. In an effort to support local Brooklyn-based artists' work, they are set to launch a Limited Edition Brooklyn Artists Tee Series on February 14, 2011. A portion of profits from the sale of these long sleeve printed tees will go toward supporting FREE ARTS NYC, a NY-based organization that provides under-served children and families with a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs.

"We commissioned three well known local artists to create a tee shirt design based on what inspires them. The process itself was very inspiring for us! For the tee design, we thought a lot about what kids love, how they make art, and how open and potent their imagination can be. Creativity is very important at Soft, and as a former educator, I am so happy to be able to support both local artists and art education through this creative project." States Soft Founder, Jessica Ralli.
"Free Arts NYC is thrilled to be a part of Soft Clothing's inaugural Artist Series collection and pleased to support the local artists involved."

The Company Store Launches “Buy One, Give One” Comforter Donation Program to Benefit Homeless Children Across the U.S.

The Company Store today announced the launch of a Buy One, Give One Comforter Donation Program to benefit homeless children across the country.  With this initiative, The Company Store will donate a new comforter to a homeless child with every comforter purchased from their web site or catalog. As the children transition from temporary to more permanent housing, the children will be able to take their new comforters with them to their new home.

“We’re pleased to partner with charities nationwide on such a vital initiative,” says Dennis Warner, Chief Marketing Officer of The Company Store.  “There are a significant number of homeless children in this country who do not sleep in their own home, in their own bedroom.  The Company Store is committed to bringing some comfort to these children in need.”

According to The National Center on Family Homelessness (www.familyhomelessness.org), families with young children comprise a staggering 34% of America’s homeless population.  In a given year, 1 in 50 American children is homeless, affecting over 1.5 million children across the country and jeopardizing their health and well-being on a daily basis.  Numerous charitable organizations work tirelessly to provide relief and shelter to homeless families, and The Company Store has pledged to aid their efforts.

“Day in and day out, these groups work to deliver services and care to families until they can get into permanent housing.  We hope that the donated comforters will raise the spirits of thousands of children and their families as they work to rebuild their lives.” says Dennis Warner, CMO of The Company Store.
