NEW CLIP from That's What I Am - In Theaters This Friday

Official Synopsis:

Set in California against the backdrop of the mid-sixties, That’s What I Am is a coming-of-age story that follows 12-year-old Andy Nichol (Chase Ellison), a bright student who, like most kids his age, will do anything to avoid conflict for fear of suffering overwhelming ridicule and punishment from his junior high school peers.

Everyone’s favorite teacher, Mr. Simon (Ed Harris), pairs Andy with the school’s biggest outcast and social pariah, Stanley aka “Big G” (Alexander Walters), on a critical school project. Sporting thick orange hair, a head too big for his body and ears too big for his head, “Big G” has been the object of ridicule since grade school. Before long, Andy will learn that there was truly a method behind Mr. Simon’s madness as to why he teamed these two up.

After a dramatic incident in the schoolyard, teachers and parents rethink their roles in school and society. Principal Kelner (Amy Madigan) suspends a school bully for brutally beating up a female classmate. The vindictive father of the bully makes Mr. Simon the target of a malicious rumor about his sexuality, causing Mr. Simon to question his calling as an educator and mentor to his students.

When Andy watches “Big G” fearlessly confront the school bully about the incident, a series of events are triggered. Much to Andy’s surprise, he learns that “Big G” is a brilliant, kind, tolerant human being, who as more dignity than anyone Andy has ever encountered.

Big G personifies Mr. Simon’s four word answer on how to obtain world peace:

HUMAN DIGNITY + COMPASSION = PEACE.

My Take on the DVD
This movie was a pretty good western movie. I didn't know what to expect when I saw the cast, but in watching this I was impressed by the acting and cinematography. There are some aspects that are a bit over-the-top, but what movie isn't this way in some parts. I did enjoy the movie and was not tempted to be distrated within the movie itself. Instead I did stay throughout and was engaged. Some of the acting is just ok, but there were other performances that were reasonable. While this is not another True Grit or Tombstone, it was enjoyable and for anyone who likes westerns, I think you will be dually impressed.

African Cats” Motion Picture Opens on Earth Day, April 22, 2011

“African Cats” is still more than two weeks from opening on Earth Day, but moviegoers have already bought $1.7 million in tickets to see the movie during its opening week (April 22-28) and save the African savanna in the process. Thanks to the “See ‘African Cats,’ Save the Savanna” initiative, Disneynature’s pledge to make a contribution in honor of everyone who sees the film opening week already translates to more than 9,500 acres of land within Kenya’s Amboseli Wildlife Corridor—and that number continues to rise.

“We are very impressed with the passion people are showing for ‘African Cats’—advance ticket sales for this film have surpassed both ‘Earth’ and ‘Oceans’ at this stage of the game, which shows how excited moviegoers are for both the movie and the ‘Save the Savanna’ initiative,” said Alan Bergman, president, The Walt Disney Studios. “The Amboseli Corridor is an essential passage utilized by so many animals in the African savanna. The advance ticket sales so far will allow Disneynature with African Wildlife Foundation’s assistance to conserve more than 9,500 acres of this passage—which equates to 19 Disney’s Animal Kingdoms, or nearly two-thirds the size of Manhattan—and we still have two weeks till opening day.”

“The ‘See “African Cats,” Save the Savanna’ program transforms the moviegoing experience into tangible on-the-ground conservation action. The commitment of Disneynature combined with the passion of moviegoers will raise critical funds to conserve the land that the magnificent species featured in ‘African Cats’ call home,” said Dr. Patrick Bergin, CEO, African Wildlife Foundation. “Through this amazing collaboration, we celebrate our 50th Anniversary together with Disneynature and all the people who are helping establish the Amboseli Wildlife Corridor.”

“See ‘African Cats,’ Save the Savanna” continues Disneynature’s conservation efforts, which began with its first release, “Earth” (2009), for which three million trees were planted in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. The program in support of “Oceans” (2010) helped establish 40,000 acres of marine protected areas in The Bahamas, which contain miles of vital coral reef.

SEE AFRICAN CATS, SAVE THE SAVANNA
During the films opening week (April 22-28), a portion of the proceeds from that weeks ticket sales will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to ensure the future of lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, giraffes and a host of other animals in the vibrant African savanna. The AWF will be working to protect the Amboseli Wildlife Corridor, a passage between the Amboseli, Tsavo West and Chyulu Hills National Parks that is frequently used by a variety of wildlife.

The film, which will be released in theaters worldwide, opens in North America on April 22, 2011. Tickets for groups of 20 or more are already available in the United States by calling 1-888-DISNEY6. Tickets are also available online at www.disney.com/africancats.

There are also a number of innovative online efforts underway that allow moviegoers to pledge their commitment to the film and in doing so, support the cause.

ABOUT THE MOVIE
An epic true story set against the backdrop of one of the wildest places on Earth, “African Cats” captures the real-life love, humor and determination of the majestic kings of the savanna. Disneynature brings “The Lion King” to life on the big screen in this True Life Adventure directed by Keith Scholey and Alastair Fothergill (“Earth”). An awe-inspiring adventure blending family bonds with the power and cunning of the wild, “African Cats” leaps into theatres on Earth Day, April 22, 2011. My Take on the DVDI have come to like the Focker movies in the past for their fun loving humor as well as the situations that are always introduced that seem to provide a glimpse into the crazy relationships and situations that surround bringing together two differing families.

This movie continues the tradition! What I loved about this was was the added fun of adding in additional kids to the mix. I also liked the the fact that the movie showed some very real situations that I could see many families having. Having kids intensifies the family dynamic as well as the relationships with your extended family, and sometimes this can be both frustrating, humorous, and exasperating. This movie brought this and many other scenarios to the table and lets people see, through a fun outlet, some of the humor in serious situations and even gives couples some ideas of how you might be able to get past some of these issues as well.

As always, the main characters were great working together. I do not know whether there is another movie in the future, but I would not mind seeing more in the future!

My Take on the DVD
My family loves Veggietales and this DVD is no different. With three great episodes that focus on friendships and including great songs this DVD is a great treasure for the whole family. What I like best about these DVDs is that they are so family friendly and provide such a great message to all who watch. Though there is a spiritual focus to these DVDs the message transcends this and encompasses all. All-in-all I would highly recommend this DVD to all!

Clubhouse TV show, a never-before-seen episode, and a free paper mask with festive embellishments that kids can personalize. And as a special option for consumers, Disney has packaged a version of the DVD to include the exclusive Mickey Mote – a child-friendly handheld remote control, shaped like Mickey ears, that takes children’s viewing experience to a whole new level of play. The DVD + Mickey Mote Play Set is the ultimate value for moms and equally fun and engaging for kids! The Mickey Mote uses infrared wireless technology and may not be compatible with all devices.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Masquerade starring Disney’s Fab Five -- Minnie, Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Daisy – takes viewers on an all new adventure as they dress-up in their favorite costumes for Minnie’s Masquerade Ball.  In this episode, Minnie needs some help getting everything ready for her party including making royal crowns for their costumes, searching for Sir Goofalot’s lost shoe, stringing up paper lanterns and much, much more. At the ball, Professor Von Drake hosts the great Clubhouse Costume Show and gives out prize ribbons to all the friends who have dressed up in some funny and fancy costumes.  All it takes is a heaping helping of imagination…and the right Mouseketools.

About Disney’s Exclusive Mickey Mote:
Disney’s Mickey Mote works with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode™ feature – an interactive “Watch & Play” feature on the DVD.  All parents have to do is program the remote control - there’s an easy and quick set-up guide in each DVD- and select the Discovery Mode feature on the menu screen.  Within minutes, kids will be easily responding to questions, throughout the story, about scenes they just watched by pressing one of four color-coded buttons on the device -- a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square – to click in their responses.  Discovery Mode features include two levels of play, which provides more challenging questions as the child grows.

The Mickey Mote can be used with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode feature. To date there are more than 11 titles that can be used with the remote control, just take a look at the back of the package to make sure.

My Take on the DVD

Entertaining and fun, this DVD has a myriad of different episodes that will just keep your child's attention. My youngest loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (we are a Disney Family!) and she has tried the Mickey Mote in the past and loves to be in control of the remote. This DVD also works with the Mickey Mote and engages even young children. I have been amazed at the lessons that Mickey Mouse Clubhouse teaches while keeping the learning light and fun.

Overall, this was a great DVD, and one that I would recommend for any family that is a Disney fan!
